Something Special Happens to hay at 7,500 feet!
Something special happens to alfalfa at an altitude of 7,500 feet! As altitude is gained, air becomes thinner, oxygen more scarce, and temperatures more dramatic. It is typical for there to be a change of 30 to 50 degrees in one day here in the San Luis Valley. For plants to survive in this climate they must strengthen themselves with addition protein and other valuable nutrients. This makes the hay we produce of higher nutritional quality than that which is produced in other regions of the United States. Our hay is typically sold for use in dairies around the country because of the high nutritional values.
